We’re an independent British accessories brand and * increasingly unusually * an actual British manufacturer. Every bow tie, tie and pocket square on this site is printed, cut, sewn and boxed by our own team in England. None of it exists until you order it.
How it started
Mrs Bow Tie launched in July 2012, founded by Andy and Lianne, who brought together backgrounds in ecommerce and commercial branding. The name came from a nickname Andy had given Lianne when the two first became friends. It stuck, and it ended up above the door.
Everything is made to order
When your order comes in, a copy goes straight to our pre-production team, who print and cut the exact design in the exact shape you’ve chosen. It moves up to production to be assembled, sewn and quality checked, then on to distribution to be boxed and packed. Nothing sits in a warehouse waiting to be picked. Despite all of that, we still get orders out internationally faster than most brands shipping pre-made stock.
We work this way for a reason. The fashion industry is one of the world’s largest polluters, and a great deal of that waste comes from making things nobody ordered — goods produced in bulk, shipped in containers, discounted when they don’t sell, and destroyed when they still don’t. Making each piece on demand means we only ever use the fabric, energy and labour a real order requires.
It also means we know exactly who made your bow tie, and we get to check it ourselves before it leaves the building. We’re a little obsessive about that.
Why we make in Britain
It would be cheaper and easier to have all of this made overseas. Most of our competitors do. Keeping a factory in England costs more, but it keeps skilled manufacturing jobs here, it keeps our supply chain short enough to see the end of, and it means the words “Made in Britain” on our labels are a description rather than a marketing exercise. What we make
More than a thousand designs, across bow ties, ties, pocket squares, socks, belts and accessories — from plain black satin for strict black tie through to Liberty Fabrics florals, tartans and prints you won’t find anywhere else. Bow ties come in five shapes and in both self-tie and pre-tied, and most designs can be matched across a tie, bow tie and pocket square for a whole wedding party.
