Black Bow Ties
A black bow tie is the one accessory no formal wardrobe can do without. Ours are cut and sewn to order in Britain — plain satin, matte faux silk and vegan velvet alongside subtly patterned designs — each offered as self-tie or pre-tied, and every one adjustable to fit a 14″ to 19″ neck.
How to choose a black bow tie
Strict black tie asks for something plain, worn with a dinner jacket or tuxedo. Satin carries the sharpest sheen under evening light; our faux silk is matte and lightly textured for a quieter finish; velvet has a soft depth that suits winter weddings and Christmas parties. Where the dress code is black tie optional — or you’re dressing for a wedding, prom or ball — a patterned design in floral, Liberty or tonal filigree still reads as formal across a room, but rewards a closer look.
Self-tie or pre-tied?
Self-tie is the traditional choice and the one that sits properly against a wing or turndown collar; our How to Tie a Bow Tie guide takes you through the knot. Pre-tied styles hold their shape on an adjustable strap — the practical option for groomsmen, school formals, or anyone who’d rather not be wrestling with a mirror ten minutes before the car arrives. Both adjust to fit a 14″ to 19″ neck.
Shapes
Standard, Large, Batwing, Diamond Point and Large Evening. Larger shapes balance broader shoulders and higher collars; the skinny batwing sits neatest under a narrow collar. The Bow Tie Sizes page lists exact dimensions for each, and our Bow Tie FAQs cover collar sizing, care and returns.
Every bow tie is handmade to order in our British workshop. Complete the look with a matching black pocket square.
