Choosing a shade
Champagne and pale gold are the wedding shades: soft enough to read almost as a neutral against ivory and cream, and a common choice where a white bow tie would be too stark. Yellow gold and saffron sit richer and warmer. Mustard yellow is the autumn shade and works particularly well with tweed and brown tailoring. Lemon and brighter yellows are summer colours and want a plain navy or grey suit behind them.
Metallic and pattern
Our metallic golds catch the light in a way the flat shades don’t, which makes them a genuine statement at an evening event. Beyond the plains there are stripes, pin dots and contemporary prints for anyone who wants the colour with something else going on.
Shape matters here
A strong colour is affected more by scale than a plain black is. In our large evening shape a gold bow tie is unmistakably the centre of the outfit; in the standard butterfly or the skinny batwing it’s far more restrained. Our sizes page shows each shape at true scale.
