Floral Ties
A floral tie is the easiest way to put pattern into a suit without it becoming a talking point. From a few feet away most of these read as texture or a block of colour; it’s only close up that the print resolves. All printed and sewn to order in Britain.
Scale is what matters, not colour
The single thing that decides whether a floral tie works is the size of the print. Ditsy florals, small, densely repeated flowers behave almost like a plain tie from a distance and are the safe choice for a wedding or the office. Large-scale prints like our hydrangeas and magnolias are unmistakably floral from across a room, and want a plain suit and a plain shirt behind them. Between the two sit the eucalyptus and foliage designs, where the pattern is mostly green and leaf rather than flower, which reads as considerably more restrained.
Great for summer, fine all year
Floral ties are at their most obvious in spring and summer, but they work year round; the season is set more by the ground colour than by the flowers on it. Darker florals on navy and black grounds carry into autumn and winter perfectly well. Our most popular colours are blue, pink and yellow, though the range runs well beyond those.
Choosing for a wedding
Floral is the most requested category we make for weddings, for a practical reason: a print containing three or four colours will pick up something in almost any palette, where a plain tie has to match exactly or not at all. Pink hydrangeas on sage green is the clearest example as it works with either colour scheme, and gives you room for error if the bridesmaid dresses aren’t quite the shade you remembered.
